Objet
In her art, Eva Moosbrugger rearranges the boundaries of the medium glass beyond all expectations. In heavy, massively blown objects of Venetian glass, the sculptress makes light dance. Ingenious surface textures tempt the viewer to touch and give the sculptures their characteristic haptic appeal. New impressions come to be again and again, formed by the viewer’s observation, relationship, distance and mood. Habits of perception are questioned by hugely enlarged pearls, whose timeless forms have inspired the collecting passion of aesthetes for millennia. In diptychs consisting of a glacial erratic block and a corresponding piece in glass, the counterparts appear to be engrossed in a tender communication.
Pairs
The history of the material per se -which she uses very consciously in her works- is very important for the forcefulness and intensity of Eva Moosbrugger’s art. The erratic blocks used by the artist for her diptychs originated in Switzerland, at today’s boarder to Italy. When the glacier melted toward the end of the last Ice Age, the stones travelled hundreds of kilometers, taking tens of thousands of years -with an average speed of two meters per year- until they were deposited at their finding place in Vorarlberg, Austria.
For Eva Moosbrugger, the stonesÔ long journey makes them a perfect metaphor for human existence. Paired with the coloured, glowing glass objects which catch the light, harmonious works of art are created in which the viewer can read a part of his own history.
